Issue 13 2015

The next generation of young winter athletes all have the date firmly marked in their calendars as they countdown the next 12 months until the 2nd edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games set to take place between 12 and 21 February 2016 in Lillehammer, Norway.

Famous for the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, the small Norwegian town will once again burn the Olympic flame and open the doors of its world-class sporting facilities, which have been in use since the Games over 20 years ago.

Like all Youth Olympic Games, the competition will follow the Olympic sports programme, but with a few exciting twists such as the addition of the monobob event, ice hockey skills challenge and many mixed NOC and mixed team events.

Also available to the athletes within the Youth Olympic Village will be the ‘Learn and Share Programme’ - a series of interactive workshops and skills sessions given by experts and top Olympians.

Visitors to Lillehammer will also get the chance to try out some of the many sports on offer at the YOG and enjoy the numerous cultural activities that will be available throughout the Games.
